Pria Power Bar
What exactly is a 'power bar'? According to the label, this is a 'nutritional energy snack bar.' So am I supposed to feel energetic and powerful after I eat this? Well I tested this out by eating it right before I went to the gym. I was going to be working out for a total of 2 hours, with an hour of cardio exercise from step aerobics and then an hour of a weights and muscle strengthening class called BodyPumP. I was hoping this 'energy/power bar' would give me some extra pep for step aerobics, and some extra power for BodyPump.
The bar was a 'mint chocolate cookie' flavor'. It is covered in chocolate and is crunchy, mint chocolatey and sweet. I had to check out the sugar content because no way was I going to eat the entire thing if it had more than 20 g sugar. Only 5 g! I was shocked and pleased. I must say though that the chocolate is covering up an awful greyish color bar. Pay that no attention though - not everything that's good for you looks good on the inside. In addition, Pria contains at least 15% of 23 vitamins and minerals, in addition to 110 calories, 3.5 g fat, 2.5 g saturated fat, and 5 g protein. It is a great source of some 'hard to get' vitamins. I was definitely encouraged when I saw that it was so nutritionally dense and I lost some of my skepticism and thought that I might just get some extra energy for the gym after all.
Well, I barely made it through my aerobics class and I don't think I had any extra power in my muscle conditioning class, so I'm not sure that this 'power bar' gave me any extra energy or power. Yet, I liked the tsate, and with 110 calories and '23 vitamins and minerals', I could probably use this as a snack, but not a meal replacement since it is not filling at all. It is priced at around $1.00 per bar if you buy a box of 15.
