Gardenburger Wraps is a relatively recent addition to the Gardenburger line of 100% natural, meatless products, which I tend to love. I tried the 'black bean chipotle' which has a 'black bean patty, chipotle sauce, and cheese wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla.'It's not easy trying to make a black bean concoction taste good, but Gardenburger tries really hard. Unfortunately, they didn't try hard enough. The black bean patty gave the wrap a dry, beany taste, which would have been offset by the chipotle sauce and the cheese but you have to eat half of the wrap to get down to it. Chipotle is smoked jalopeno peppers, so be prepared for a somewhat strong spicy 'hot' aftertaste. A word to the wise, make sure you follow the microwave instructions on the back. The first time I nuked it, it was overdone and it was horrible. It's not so bad when it's done properly.
There are 240 calories, 13 g of protein and 7 g fiber in one wrap, but the whopping 860 mg sodium and 7 g total fat (but only 2 g saturated) are a bit high in my opinion. At just over $3.00 for a package with two wraps, the price isn't bad, but I think my $3.00 will be spent on something else.
