Boca Meatless Chili is made with ground soy instead of beef, but don't let that turn you off, because then you will miss out on this very tasty product. I liked the combination of green bell peppers, black beans, and red kidney beans along with the ground meat soy which combined to make a very filling dish. The 'tomato baste' flavor was also not too strong and overwhelming. My only critique was that without additional seasoning, it seemed a little bland. Maybe something else in addition to the 'red pepper puree' was needed to get in a little more spicy or to rev up the flavor a bit. I would say add more salt, but if the whopping 650 mg (27% of the daily value) didn't do the trick, I don't think a dash or two more would.
One container (1 serving) of Boca Meatless Chili provides only 150 calories, 1 gram of fat, no cholesterol, 20 grams of protein, 6 grams of sugar and 12 grams of fiber.
This is perfect except for the high sodium, and the portion size is perfect for a hearty, filling dinner (9.5 ounces). It comes in a microwaveable bowl, so the directions couldn't be simpler, just cut a slit in the top, microwave for a few minutes, stir it all together, then maybe microwave a little bit more (I had to) and viola!
I am a big fan of this product and at $2.37 I think this is a good deal. It costs more to get fast food or takeout, so I think I'll definitely be eating more of this in the future.
