Healthy Foodie Favorite Products of 2009 from YumYucky
We asked some of our favorite food bloggers to share with us their 5 Favorite Food Products of 2009.
Josie aka YumYucky turned up the hungry radar and scoured store shelves in 2009. I snapped pictures of food in the aisles. My greedy eyeball popped out in the freezer section at least a dozen times, and I thwarted store security despite the ruckus I caused. Yum Yucky's foodie adventures led to the taste of pure nastiness and the bliss of delectable goodness.
Here are my Top 5 Healthy Picks of 2009 that I detected in the aisles and continue to bring home week after week for my Greedy Family.
- Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grains Cereal. It sounds really nasty. It looks even worse. You may even need fright insurance to save you from the scary idea of eating it. But oh, it's really really good. Ezekiel cereal is best served up warm & cozy in low fat milk (or an alternative milk-type version) for a pseudo-oatmeal experience. Just throw in a wee bit of zero calorie Stevia for sweetness and you've just hit the hungry jackpot of organic delight with 7 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber.
- . Thomas' Hearty Grains Whole Wheat Bagel. Congratulations to the Thomas' man. This is the first ever whole grain food that my entire Greedy Family enjoys. They wrestle for it; bicker about it; hide the last one from the other person - all so they can keep the bagel for themselves. But I promise all this food fighting is done in a (kinda) peaceful manner. Hearty Grains bagels ride the flavor train and stay surprisingly soft even when the lazy people don't close the bag right.
- Land 'O Lakes Butter with Olive Oil. This one grew on me like a corn on the baby toe, but, er, I don't have one of those. I wasn't uber-impressed from the start, but then I fried an egg with it. Talk about amazing. Not only does it have a unique flavor twist from the butter & olive oil blend, it makes cooking a breeze as if I'm a professional egg cracker cooking up slippery eggs that never stick to the pan. If your family raises hell went you attempt to sneak in the healthy, non-stick cooking spray, use Butter with Olive Oil.
- Ronzoni Healthy Harvest 7-Grain Pasta. This is not regular wheat pasta. I don't like that stuff. Ronzoni 7-Grain is a blissful concoction of grains such as rye, oat, buckwheat, and barley. It's smells wonderful and tastes delicious. Thanks to 7-Grain love, my entire family will never eat white pasta again. Translation? I don't have to force them to eat this.
- Florida's Natural Au'some Fruit Nuggets. Whenever I reach for a package of Fruit Nuggets they're just about gone. I have to buy at least two boxes at a time to guarantee myself some Au'some pleasure. They're delightfully sweet, but not sugar-ridden with artificial-ness. Fruit Nuggets have a natural sweetness derived from 66% fruit juices. Whenever my taste buds try to take control and demand sugary crap, I give them a 50-calorie smack down with a package of Fruit Nuggets. One day I'm going to dump the whole package into my mouth all at once and see what happens. Fruit Nuggets make me feel like a kid again, except healthy this time. Om-nom-nom!
