Breyers YoCrunch Light Strawberry Yogurt

Breyers YoCrunch Light Strawberry YogurtI love yogurt and I love granola, and while the two mixed together are wonderful - they're not always low calorie. Breyers YoCrunch Lowfat Yogurt Peach with Granola for example, provides 220 calories and has 30 grams of sugar per 6.5 ounce serving. But YoCrunch Light is a little less caloric. Each 6 ounce serving provides 120 calories from the yogurt, 50 calories from the granola topping and 15 grams of sugars total (11 grams in the yogurt and 5 grams in the granola). I saw the Breyers YoCrunch Light Strawberry Yogurt for $1.25 at the grocery store, and decided to give it a shot.

The granola comes in a little cup on top of the yogurt, which is wonderful because that means it doesn't get soggy. The strawberry yogurt was nice and sweet without being overly so. Furthermore, it was thicker than some "light" yogurts, which made it more satisfying. The granola was deliciously crunchy and lightly sweetened, and it added a lot of texture and crunch to an already good yogurt flavor.

Yoplait Whips Chocolate Mousse

Yoplait Whips Chocolate MousseWe have often professed our love for Yoplait Light here on Iateapie.net, yet the Yoplait Light Thick & Creamy and Yoplait Delights have let us down a bit. Still, I have a soft spot for Yoplait and so when I realized hadn't tried Yoplait Whips, I bought the Chocolate Mousse Style Whips ($0.60 each), and stuck it in the freezer upon returning home.

The next night, I reluctantly grabbed a spoon and dug in to see what all of the fuss was about. I have frozen yogurt cups before and they turned into a hard rock that you either must thaw in the microwave or chip away at, bit by bit. However, Yoplait Whips are fluffy, air-y and comparable to your average mousse prior to being frozen, so they take to freezing quite well. As a matter of fact, when you remove the container from the freezer, you can immediately scoop into the smooth and creamy creation just like you would with ice cream. The chocolate flavor is a bit artificial, with the chocolate liquor taking a strong presence; but will still satisfy a chocolate craving in a cool way.

Of course, you don't have to indulge in the frozen form of Yoplait Whips (although I would highly suggest it) because they are very delicious straight from the fridge. The texture is light and fluffy like a good mousse should be and retains the same slightly-off chocolate flavor (which grows on you after the first somewhat offsetting bite).

Yoplait Delights Triple Berry Creme Lowfat Yogurt Parfait

Yoplait Delights Triple Berry Creme Lowat Yogurt Parfait

Yoplait Delights Triple Berry Creme Lowfat Yogurt Parfait is described on the company's website as, "Triple the berry. Triple the delight! A delicious blend of rich strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry yogurt is topped with smooth vanilla yogurt to make the perfect parfait. It's hard to believe this berry bliss is 100 calories!"

What I agree with: The vanilla creme which is the top half is creamy, smooth and delicious.

The rest: Triple the delight - I think not! The "triple berry" was more like "half a berry". I think if you're going to go hard core with the name - not just berry, not even berry berry, but you're going to tell me this a "Triple Berry" flavor - then I expect to be bowled over with the flavor. I expect big chunky fruit pieces, and I expect plenty of it. Unfortunately, what this tastes like is vanilla yogurt with a little added berry flavor. The small fruit specks present could have been, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, apple or anything else, because they didn't have much flavor, and really the specks were so small that they didn't even add much texture to the yogurt.

Stonyfield Farm Organic Low Fat Raspberry Lemonade Yogurt

Stonyfield Farm Raspberry Lemonade Organic YogurtI was a serious food geek, letting out a little squeal of delight when I spotted the seasonal, Stonyfield Farm Raspberry Lemonade Organic Yogurt on the shelves of Whole Foods. The flavor sounded enticing, and although Stonyfield yogurts have been a hit or miss here on Iateapie.net, I knew this was a must try item and I quickly scooped it up.

This flavor tastes almost like a vanilla or light raspberry flavored yogurt. The raspberry lemonade essence subtly radiates through each bite making for an extremely refreshing, perfectly smooth and creamy treat. If you are accustomed to fat free yogurt, you will definitely taste the delightful creaminess and difference in Stonyfield Farms' low fat version; as it is not gluey and full of gums and thickeners.

Chobani Pineapple 2% All Natural Greek Yogurt

Chobani Lowfat Pineapple Yogurt

I haven't had much luck with flavored non-fat Greek yogurt, but given my success with yogurts of the low-fat variety, I decided to try again. Chobani brand was on sale for just $1.39 per container at Fairway, a bargain price for Greek yogurt, so I decided to experiment with a new flavor. I found it particularly interesting that the brand offers only one fruit-flavored low-fat yogurt, so I decided to try Chobani Low-fat Pineapple Yogurt.

Upon opening the container I found a thick (but slightly thinner than Fage 2%) yogurt with streaks of pineapple. Most of the good stuff was at the bottom, and I stirred it up, taking in the aroma. Normally I'm not a huge pineapple fan, but I like it better in products than by itself (strange, I know). I spooned up some yogurt and tasted, finding it to be delicious. I've come to the conclusion that a little bit of fat makes a huge difference when it comes to the taste of Greek yogurt. This yogurt was incredibly creamy, and the pineapple flavoring wasn't too sweet at all yummy.

Chobani Vanilla 0% All Natural Greek Yogurt

Chobani Vanilla Greek YogurtI saw Chobani Greek Yogurt on sale at 3 for $3.00 (down from $1.69 each) and being a fan of Greek yogurt, I had to pick one up. The plain fat free kind was sold out, so I decided to try the Vanilla Fat-free flavor. I picked one up, along with a spoon, and set out to enjoy my snack.

I opened the package and examined my yogurt. The consistency was a bit odd. Some parts appeared more liquidy and others more gelatinous. The color was a light tan (which was not the most appetizing thing ever), but I was still optimistic. I dipped in my spoon and sampled the flavor. I must say, I was quite underwhelmed. The vanilla flavor was artificial-tasting, and it wasn't very sweet at all despite having sugar in it. I much prefer adding a packet of sweetener to my plain yogurt - it tastes better, and there's no strange "vanilla" essence.

Yoplait Delights Chocolate Raspberry Parfait

Yoplait Delights Chocolate Raspberry ParfaitWhen I spotted Yoplait Delights Chocolate Raspberry Parfait near the Jell-O cups, I was immediately sold. They seem like a "grown-up" version to regular yogurt with rich a sounding flavor combination.

The top simply tasted like raspberry yogurt, which was nothing special but did offer some nice fruity notes. However, what I was really itching to introduce my taste buds to was the chocolate goodness that consumed about 2/3 of the little plastic cup. Therefore, I sunk my spoon down to the bottom and enjoyed the full experience. The chocolate yogurt has a flavor similar to Jell-O Pudding; but the artificial sweeteners do leave a slight aftertaste that I could live without. Overall, the texture is slightly thicker than your average yogurt and the chocolate flavor tends to steal the show, although the raspberry essence is not completely lost.

Breyers YoCrunch 100 Calorie Cheesecake Yogurt

Breyers YoCrunch Lowfat Yogurt with GranolaI'll be the first to say that I think the Breyers YoCrunch yogurts are just average, and not what I usually reach for. Breyers YoCrunch Lowfat Yogurt Peach with Granola didn't wow me and neither did Breyers Light Boosts Immunity Strawberry Cheesecake Yogurt, but what would a YoCrunch cheesecake combination taste like?!

That's what I was wondering when I decided to try Breyers YoCrunch 100 Calorie Cheesecake Yogurt. Unfortunately, like with the Breyers Light Boosts Immunity Strawberry Cheesecake Yogurt, the cheesecake flavor was basically nonexistent. Literally, it tasted more like a mixture of plain and vanilla yogurt ... nothing special. The small dash of cookie pieces was my favorite part because they added a sweet crunch.

Shop Rite Light Fat Free Yogurt with Probiotics

Shop Rite Fat Free Yogurt with ProbioticsI was drawn to Shop Rite's Light Fat Free Yogurt with Probiotics because of the interesting flavors. I picked up the Mango flavor at $0.69 for an 8 ounce container.

I dug in to the yogurt as soon as I got home. I'm not the biggest fan of mangoes as a fruit (I've always thought they had a weird texture), but the flavor of this yogurt was quite pleasing - and very much mango. It was also really thick, much more so than Dannon Light 'n Fit, which made me happy. The extra 2 ounces also helped satisfy me for longer, so that was excellent as well. Top this with some fruit and granola, and you'll be in heaven ... until it's finished.

Liberte Six Grains Pear Yogurt

Liberte Pear YogurtAt my natural foods grocery, I saw a brand of yogurt that I've seen ridiculously overpriced at my regular grocery - Liberte. I've always been intrigued by this wholesome looking yogurt, which claims to contain six grains (buckwheat, rice, barley, wheat, rye, and oats), and with my natural foods store selling it for $1.19, I decided to give it a try, and added the Liberte Six Grains Pear Yogourt to my basket.

The yogurt itself was extremely thick and rich - I was really impressed with the consistency considering it's low fat. It had a delicious tanginess to it as well and was definitely not overly sweet. Unfortunately, it really didn't have too much pear flavor. There were chunks of pear at the bottom that I mixed in, but instead of the normal big soggy pieces of fruit that come in most fruit at the bottom yogurt cups, I found teeny little diced bits of pear that almost seemed like they had been freeze dried before added - they were just very hard, crunchy, and flavorless.

Fiber One Key Lime Yogurt

Fiber One Key Lime YogurtMy perfect yogurt would be creamy and satisfying, filled with calcium, protein, and even fiber. When I saw that Fiber One Yogurt hit all the nutritional highlights, well it was up to me to do a taste test to decide if they met the "creamy and satisfying" parts of my requirements. This product comes in many flavors - strawberry, peach, vanilla, and Key Lime Pie - which is what I grabbed since I've been on a Key Lime kick lately.

This stuff is fantastic. It's super creamy, despite being fat-free, and the Key Lime flavor is tart and sweet at the same time. It's thick and delicious and I couldn't get enough. Surprisingly, the 4 ounce cup was enough to satisfy me for an hour or 2 in between meals, too. There's a recipe at Fiber One for making Key Lime Pie from this that I wouldn't mind trying. It has some "healthier" substitutions already, but I think I could do more and still get a good tasting pie.

Breyers Light Boost Immunity Black Cherry Jubilee Yogurt

Breyers Light Boost Immunity Cherries JubileeI recently tried out Breyers Light Boosts Immunity Strawberry Cheesecake Yogurt, which was absolutely divine. I wanted to try another flavor in this line, so this time around, I decided to give my favorite flavor of yogurt a try, Black Cherry.

Once again, Breyers hit a home run. The yogurt was creamy, flavorful, and had little pieces of black cherries sprinkled through it to keep things interesting. It felt more like I was tasting a yummy dessert than some yogurt. Although I had this plain, I imagine it would be just as tasty in a smoothie, mixed into oatmeal, or topped with some Kashi cereal for a nice crunch.

Yoplait Light Apple Turnover Yogurt

Yoplait Light Apple Turnover YogurtYoplait Light has some new Light Fat Free yogurt flavors to offer, bringing the total to over 20 flavors, and I was intrigued to give some of them a try. I was torn between Apple Turnover, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, and Raspberry Cheesecake (tough decision!), but I eventually decided on the Apple Turnover.

Looking at the front of this yogurt, I pondered what my favorite parts of apple desserts were - definitely the flavors of the apple, but also those of the cinnamon and crust. Clearly this yogurt wasn't going to reproduce the crust entirely, but I had hopes for the cinnamon. I opened the container and scooped up a spoonful (and one that included a big chunk of apple, too). The verdict? Fantastic! This yogurt accurately captured the delicious mingling of apple and cinnamon that make this dessert so delicious, and the texture is ridiculously thick, especially for a light yogurt yummy.

Stonyfield Farm Organic Probiotic Fat Free Strawberry Yogurt

Stonyfield Farm Organic Probiotic Fat Free Strawberry YogurtIt seems like every time I turn around, there is a new yogurt product gracing the shelves and I never know which ones are truly worthy of my money, but I do like trying the new (and improved) ones. That's what I was thinking when I saw with Stonyfield Farm Organic Probiotic Fat Free Strawberry Yogurt . A pack of 4 was on sale for $2.00 ($0.50 per yogurt), so I decided it was worth a shot.

Upon opening the yogurt container, you need to thoroughly mix the product to create the smooth and creamy creation you are hoping for. However, this is a fat free product, so that is to be expected. Once you have reached a creamy consistency, you will experience a lovely taste sensation. The flavor is splendid, being subtly sweet and possessing a naturally tasting strawberry flavor. Unfortunately, there is also a slightly chalky textural disturbance that will not go unnoticed. By the time you reach your 2nd or 3rd yogurt, the slight textural upset grows on you. Actually, as I was consuming my last yogurt in the 4-pack, I made sure to update my grocery list to include this yogurt.

Cascade Fresh Plain Yogurt

Cascade Fresh Fat Free YogurtPlain yogurt is a staple in my refrigerator - it's packed with protein and calcium, and the fat-free kind has a reasonable number of calories. I usually buy Dannon All Natural Nonfat Plain Yogurt, but since I was in the organic/natural foods section of the grocery store when I decided I needed yogurt, I decided to look around for a suitable replacement. My eyes fell on Cascade Fresh Fat Free Yogurt, with its appealing blue/ green color scheme and mountain and milk bottle design on the front. It didn't hurt that each yogurt was only $0.79, the same price as my Dannon yogurt and less expensive than other all-natural varieties. I threw a couple in my basket and marched up to the cash register to buy my yogurt.

Before starting in on the yogurt, I examined the package. In doing so, I discovered that Cascade Fresh has 8 live active cultures and the ingredient list is refreshingly short, containing only Grade A pasteurized nonfat milk, pectin, and active cultures. As for taste, I found this to be much creamier than some other nonfat plain yogurts. As I do with all of my unsweetened yogurt, I did add some Splenda, which made for a heavenly dairy dessert. I liked the thickness of the yogurt too - much thicker than Dannon Light 'n Fit, but not as thick as Greek yogurt.

Dannon Light & Fit Key Lime Yogurt

Dannon Light and Fit Key Lime YogurtIf you haven't tried any of the new flavors of Dannon Light & Fit, you may be doing yourself a disservice. Dannon has come up with 5 new varieties of their 80 calorie Light 'n Fit yogurt including Mixed Berry, Cherry, Key Lime, and limited time only Pineapple Coconut and Pomegranate Berry - and let me tell you, after trying the Key Lime flavor, I can't wait to try them all.

I was in the grocery store picking up some fruit yesterday when I happened upon the new Light & Fit flavors. I must admit, I don't even like Key Lime pie that much, but I was intrigued enough to try Dannon's take on the dessert flavor. I opened the package and spooned up my first taste. It was a delicious mouthful and much creamier than what I would have expected from an 80 calorie yogurt yummy. The key lime flavor was perfect - not too over the top but the essence was present. I love it when snacks are flavorful and this made me feel like I had a real dessert instead of a yogurt!

Fage Total 2% Yogurt

Fage Total YogurtGreek yogurt can be a great buy - it's a good sour cream substitute, and it offers a ton of protein - but some people find that it tastes sour and unappealing. In the review of Fage Total 0%, Tanya remarked that the yogurt was sour and acidic. I agree (although I think it's much better when you add some Splenda or honey), but I was determined not to give up on Greek yogurt entirely. I decided to try Fage Total 2% Yogurt, hoping that the little bit of added fat would help the flavor.

I picked up a 7-ounce container of the stuff for $1.99 at the grocery store (I think this was an anomaly, and most single-serving containers are 6 ounces, but the nutrition stats listed here are for the 7-ounce size). It was certainly more expensive than other yogurts, but I was willing to pony up the extra cash in an attempt to satisfy my protein-rich, creamy dairy craving. I added a packed of Splenda and stirred, hoping for the best. As it turns out, the extra fat goes a LONG way in helping this yogurt's taste. While the 0% can be sour-tasting, the 2% is much, much creamier and more appealing. It was like eating a full-fat dessert but with a fraction of the fat and calories (Fage Total has twice the number of calories).

Breyers YoCrunch Light Cookies n' Cream Yogurt

Breyers YoCrunch Light Cookies n' CreamLowfat yogurts have certainly come a long way and are now one of my favorite low calorie snacks. I usually prefer eating yogurt by itself, but I decided to try out this YoCrunch Light Cookies n' Cream, which is described on the container as "light nonfat yogurt with Oreo cookie pieces."

The yogurt itself has a vanilla flavor that was quite good on its own, but it was fun mixing in the Oreo pieces. There were enough cookie pieces to distribute nicely in the container of yogurt so that each spoonful of yogurt had some crunch from the cookies. The mild tartness of the yogurt was an interesting contrast to the direct sweetness of the Oreos. The overall effect was a not-too sweet creamy, crunchy flavorful yogurt.

Breyers Light Boosts Immunity Strawberry Cheesecake Yogurt

Breyers Light Boosts Immunity Strawberry Cheesecake YogurtBreyers Light Boosts Immunity Yogurt is enhanced with a special natural probiotic bacteria, "clinically proven to help strengthen your body's immune system." I suspect that almost every yogurt these days could make that same claim. Still, I picked up the Strawberry Cheesecake variety because ... it had cheesecake in the name, and each 6 ounce serving only has 80 calories.

There were a few strawberry pieces in this, unlike the Breyers Light Probiotic Plus Lowfat Yogurt where the fruit is blended. This "strawberry cheescake" yogurt should have been named "strawberry" instead, because the "cheesecake" flavor was nowhere to be found. There is no aftertaste but it does have that sort of "fake sugar", not so creamy taste that most light yogurts have. But let's face it,for a 6 ounce "light" yogurt with only 80 calories, I did not expect that this to taste phenomenal - and you shouldn't either.

So Delicious Vanilla Coconut Milk Yogurt Alternative

So Delicious Vanilla Coconut Milk YogurtI have experimented many times in the past with coconut milk. It makes a GREAT substitution in vegan treats. It has a wonderful creamy, rich, smooth flavor, which is why I was so excited to see a 'yogurt' made from this stuff by Turtle Mountain. So Delicious Coconut Milk is a dairy free, soy free, vegan yogurt alternative made with live active cultures.

The taste of the Vanilla flavor is phenomenal. It had the perfect vanilla flavor with an extra 'kick'. The underlying hint of coconut added a richness to the flavor that is unlike any other yogurt I have tried. You will not be disappointed in your choice of this. And, if you've never tried anything with coconut milk before, don't be scared. There are no unusual or off putting flavors.
