Boca Bruschetta Tomato Basil Parmesan Veggie Patties
When I saw Boca Bruschetta Tomato Basil Parmesan Veggie Patties in the grocery store, I knew I had to buy them. True, a 4-serving box cost me $5.49 (at the overpriced store near me), but I was willing to pony up the cash to try what could be a wonderful meal staple.
I popped one of these babies into the microwave as soon as I got home (literally). I nuked it for about 90 seconds although I knew cooking it in a pan would make it crispier and more delicious. But I was just so eager to try it that I didn't want to wait even that long. I took my steaming Boca burger out, put it on a plate, and prepared for pure deliciousness.
And I was not disappointed. The texture was chewy and delicious, and the taste was superb as well. The basil flavor came through, though not overwhelmingly so, and the tomato flavor was spot-on. The parmesan was a nice touch too, and I even got a gooey piece of cheese in one of my bites!

Just when I thought I'd tried every veggie burger on the market, I discovered Sunshine Burgers at my local health food store. The box containing 3 patties of about 2.5 ounces each, boasted all natural, vegan and gluten free burgers of a "bold and delicious" nature.
Good news - There is truth in marketing. I tried the Original variety and these things ROCK! According to the directions, Sunshine burgers can be prepared in a toaster over, on the grill or via the microwave. Being an instant gratification kind of girl, I popped a burger in the microwave for about 1:15 min, slapped it into a whole wheat wrap, and was treated to a moist on the inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, vegetarian delight. Even better news ... these handy dandy little burgers only contain FIVE ingredients, all of which are recognizable and easy to pronounce! Ground raw sunflower seeds, brown rice, carrots, herbs and sea salt all come together to make a nutty, well seasoned, and deliciously unique veggie burger.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box of Boca in a Bun Chick'n & Swiss Sandwich was that the sandwich looks exactly like the picture on the box. What you see is what you get, and what you will see is a whole wheat bun, a breaded patty (made from meatless soy) and a slice of swiss cheese - doesn't this actually make it a burger ... since it's on a burger bun?
Well, not sure why Boca wants to call this a sandwich, but we'll roll with it. The directions are are for microwaving and after nuking it for the desired time, I was surprised that the bun was moist but not soggy and the meatless chick'n was delicious - tastes like real chicken to me, and certainly non-vegetarians will enjoy this. It's very similar to the Boca Meatless Spicy Chikn Patty, but without the spicy kick.

However, this should more accurately be described as a starter sandwich. It definitely needs some additions like lettuce, tomato and ketchup (because I put ketchup on everything) to make it a worthwhile and substantial meal. The directions say to microwave it, but I found a hard time getting the timing just right to prevent the cheese from bubbling. It is much better if it's prepared in a toaster oven.
Morningstar Farms Mushroom Lovers Burger
I recently tried Morningstar Farms Mushroom Lover's Burgers for the first time and they're a new favorite! The texture is more interesting than a regular soy patty because you can actually see large pieces of mushrooms (button and portabella), as well as onions and red peppers. This makes it seem much less processed than some other veggie burgers. My favorite way to eat them is to microwave them for a minute on each side to thaw then spray with Pam and grill on a pan for two or three minutes per side. This gives them a slight crispness on the outside and they stay nice and moist on the inside. I either eat them on whole-wheat bread or sometimes just plain with a slice of American cheese so I can taste the mushrooms better.
Amys Organic California Veggie Burger

Most veggie burgers tend to try and come similar to the taste of their meaty counterparts. Thank goodness that Amy's doesn't bother with that because they made a fabulous product which is now my favorite veggie burger (this title was previously held by Morningstar Farms Veggie Tomato and Basil Pizza Burger). Amy's California Veggie Burger doesn't use soy, like most other veggie burgers and that's why the taste is so unique. It has a slightly crunchy texture and a slightly breaded taste. Honestly the taste is very difficult for me to describe - can I just tell you to go try it, because you won't regret it?!
Boca Meatless Spicy Chik'n Patties
I was on the hunt for something quick to prepare, but not another frozen dinner! That's when I spotted Boca Meatless Chick'n Patties. Boca chicken patties have breading on the outside, and this breading actually stayed put, i.e. did not get soggy after I microwaved the hell out of this patty. The breading stays crispy even after you overcook it a little in the microwave. This 'meatless' chicken patty was not moist enough for me, but it wasn't really too dry either. Because of the breading, it was really hard to detect a difference between this and real chicken. Pay attention to the part of the label that says 'spicy.' It does have a little kick to it, but not too much. I am not big on very spicy food so take it from me if you are not also, the spiciness of this patty is at a very tolerable level.
Boca Meatless Ground Burger
Boca Meatless Ground Burger can be used to replace ground beef. My favorite meal to use it in is spaghetti. It's the simplest, and one of the quickest recipes in the world. Boil water, add spaghetti, boil for another 15 minutes. In a separate skillet, heat the ground meatless burger with a little water for 5 minutes, add the spaghetti sauce (and may I recommend my favorite, Del Monte Four Cheese Spaghetti Sauce), my secret ingredient of salsa, heat for another few minutes and you are done.
In this meal, the Boca grounds tastes very close to the real meaty deal. Close but not exactly! Boca has more of a 'chewy' texture than ground beef, and that's really about the only way I could tell the difference between the two. Of course, visually, they are a bit different too. Boca has a brownish grey - not unattractive color, similar to when you have slightly cooked and browned ground beef. Boca also comes in much smaller little chunky pieces than ground beef and doesn't stick together well. In fact, you can't shape it into burger patties for use on the grill - I tried - it doesn't work. I suppose die hard meat eaters may notice the difference in taste with the chewiness of Boca as opposed to beef, but would they be put off by it? I don't think so. I wasn't and I am definitely a carnivore. The recipes on the back of the box also suggest that you can use Boca in tacos and a penne pasta.

Just what exactly is a pizza burger? I'm still not sure, and what's even more confusing - what is a veggie pizza burger? I don't know about all of that, but I do know that this veggie burger was goo-ooh-good! I suggest everybody go out and get it now! I tried it microwaved because ... well because I was in a very lazy and very hungry mood. This is usually not the best way to make a burger, and I wasn't expecting much. This veggie pizza burger surpassed regular burgers and was absolutely delicious microwaved, so I can only imagine the goodness if it is grilled. I'm not saying that those die hard beef eaters won't be able to tell the difference, but I do know that they will not mind chowing down on this veggie goodness.
Boca Soy Burgers
I don't eat beef, ground beef especially and I was tired of missing out on hamburgers at those many summer bar-b-ques, so I tried these tasty soy burgers and I was hooked! They taste pretty darn close to 'beef' burgers just without all the fat dripping off the grill. Of course, they come already pre-formed i.e. shaped, so you won't be able to make those monster thick burgers, but if you're a 'throw on the burger on the grill' type of person, then this is a good choice.
