Fiber One Brown Sugar Cinnamon Toaster Pastry
Before I ever cared about nutrition, my typical on-the-go breakfast was 2 Kellogg's Pop-Tarts and a bottle of sugary fruit juice. Today, however, I am much more conscious about calories and nutrition. Now, I try to eat something filling for breakfast that will not leave me famished within an hour. I still love my occasional sweet tarts though, and so I was excited to see that Fiber One tried to "healthyfy" them ... somewhat.

First of all, if you are a Nutri-grain Bar lover, kiss them goodbye because after you taste Health Valley Organic Red Cherry Toaster Tarts, they may never make it back into your grocery cart again!
The organic cherry pie filling is subtly sweet and tart at the same time, and when combined with the soft and succulent whole wheat crust, it tastes like ... cherry pie! The chewy crust is more wholesome and a bit thicker than a Nutri-grain bar, rendering it much sturdier (and slightly bigger). These organic single wrapped treats are perfect for a quick breakfast or snack on the go (though you may need to add something like fruit to boost the fiber count). However, if you are fortunate enough to have a toaster close by (and can refrain from eating the tart right after the wrapper has been removed), feel free to pop your treat in the toaster for a few minutes. The final product will be a crispier "crust" and a warm fruity filling.

Fiber One seemed to be the first major brand to introduce oodles of fiber into foods for the general population. I'm constantly checking out their website for new products and that's when I saw Fiber One Toaster Pastries. There are four different flavors, Strawberry, Blueberry, Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Chocolate Fudge, but the only kind I was able to find at my local Wal-mart was Strawberry, so I took it home for $1.99 - a really good price in my opinion for 6 pastries.
Compared to Kellogg's Pop-tarts (I recently reviewed the Kellogg's Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts) the Fiber One toaster pastries are by far more delicious. I'm not a big fan of strawberry, but this pastry was really good. It was sweet with a delicious frosting on the outside. After a few seconds in the toaster oven it was warm, slightly toasted from the outside and soft on the inside.

The classic Kellogg's Pop-tarts are my weakness and the new whole grain version is no exception. They taste exactly as the regular pop-tarts do with a slight flavor of "whole-grain." However If you are like me that's a plus. There were only two kinds available at my local Wal-mart, Strawberry and Brown Sugar & Cinnamon, so I decided to try the latter as I love cinnamon. This one tasted exactly as its regular version friend but it had fewer calories, less sugar and more fiber.
But as much as I love pop-tarts, let's not kid ourselves that this is a healthy breakfast. The 1st ingredient is whole wheat flour, but the 2nd ingredient is enriched flour, and the usual suspects are included, such as high fructose corn syrup.

Many health conscious individuals choose to shy away from the sugar laden, highly processed product known as Pop Tarts. Well, we're not going to lie to you - the nutrition facts of Natures Path Organic Frosted Strawberry Toaster Pastries are similar to the pop tarts you love to hate, but the organic ingredients are what really separates the men from the boys, so to speak.
Each Toaster Pastry looks very similar to a Pop Tart with a light coating of white icing, which adds to the sweetness and texture. After one round in the toaster on low (like suggested), the pastry was warm and soft, but the layer of icing added a bit of crunch. The strawberry filling has a natural strawberry taste and adds a gooey sweet element. I have not had a Pop Tart in a long time (it's a love hate relationship), but from what I remember, these taste extremely similar (maybe even better).

Ok, I will admit a dirty little secret - I love pop tarts - they are my guilty pleasure! After a long night of studying for a test, there is nothing I crave more than a frosted strawberry pop tart, so when I was browsing through the freezer aisle last week and saw Amy's Strawberry Toaster Pops, I had to give them a try. I was pretty excited by the idea that the folks at Amy's might have solved the problem of the guilt I feel after indulging in my favorite sugary, artificially flavored, regular strawberry pop tarts. While the Amy's version does not have icing and sprinkles (a girl can't have everything she wants!), it is chock-full of healthy organic ingredients such as, organic wheat flour with organic oat bran and what germ, and organic strawberry puree. It is also vegan and dairy free and there are no artificial ingredients.
