Healthy Choice Tomato Basil & Mozzarella Panini

Healthy Choice Tomato Basil & Mozzarella PaniniI saw Healthy Choice Tomato Basil & Mozzarella Panini in the freezer aisle and picked it up mainly because it was on sale. I was sort of excited by the prospect of a large healthy Panini since the box was about 7 inches on each side. The box describes the Healthy Choice Tomato Basil & Mozzarella Panini as "no fat & reduced fat mozzarella reduced fat provolone cheeses, diced tomatoes, roasted peppers & onions, spniach with creamy basil sauce on Italian bread." Wow, that's a mouthful to say, but the sandwich itself was quite small. Each piece of bread was about 5 inches by 3 inches.

I removed the plastic wrap that was around the two Panini halves and the gray crisper cardboard, microwaved the food according to directions, and found the cheese to be nicely melted. Because the Panini was so small, I decided to eat each piece open-faced, layer by layer. There was a decent amount of diced tomatoes, and the cheese had a good taste and texture. After that, I could see the basil sauce in the bread. I was expecting something more like pesto rather than some light green coloring absorbed in the bread, but it tasted just fine. The bread was crisp, and I could see the artificial grill marks on the outer surface of the bread. While this isn't my ideal lunch, it does okay.

Healthy Choice Chicken Artichoke Panini

Healthy Choice Chicken Artichoke PaniniHealthy Choice Chicken Artichoke Panini is made with "diced white chicken, a cheese blend, diced artichokes, tomatoes & fire roasted onions with creamy garlic sauce, all on a garlic & herb bread." That description makes it sound so good, and indeed I liked it, but I didn't think it was fantastic. I found the taste light and refreshing and the garlic or onions are not over-powering. Like the Healthy Choice Chicken Basil Panini, I thought it was a little bland, but it's certainly good enough that I will buy it again.

Lean Cuisine Southwest-Style Chicken Panini

Lean Cuisine Southwest Style Chicken PaniniAccording to Lean Cuisine, the Southwest-style Chicken Panini has mesquite-seasoned white meat chicken strips with green peppers, tomatoes, onions, cheese & southwest-style sauce on sourdough bread. I am certainly no expert on Southwestern style cooking, so I really can't comment on the "authenticity" of the Southwest flavors. I only know that I liked it. I enjoyed the smoky chicken flavor, the sauce had a slightly bold flavor and the bread was crisp. I'm not saying this is a "restaurant quality" panini, but it tastes pretty darn good for a microwavable meal - I have even successfully converted a few coworkers, who I call "healthier lunch newbies" to this product.

So far my favorite LC Panini is still the Chicken Spinach and Mushrooms, but this just a level below (my least favorite is the Steak Cheddar and Mushroom.

Healthy Choice Chicken Basil Panini

Healthy Choice Chicken Basil PaniniHealthy Choice has finally upgraded their meals after trailing far behind Lean Cuisine, and is now producing Paninis. I decided to check out the Healthy Chicken Basil Panini. It has "diced white chicken, three cheeses, diced tomatoes, spinach and roasted onions with creamy basil sauce on Italian bread." I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the taste of this meal. It is ... okay - not fantastic, but not really terrible either. The flavors were a little bland, and the bread is not crispy enough.

Lean Cuisine Chicken Spinach and Mushrooms Panini

Lean Cuisine Panini"Strips of white meat grilled chicken, spinach, sliced mushrooms, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, Romano and Parmesan cheeses with an Asiago cheese sauce on Italian bread." That's how Lean Cuisine describes their Chicken, Spinach, & Mushrooms Panini and when it comes to taste - that's a pretty accurate description. This panini is unbelievably GOOD! In my opinion, a "panini" is a fancy way of saying a sandwich on grilled toast! But I guess the reason why it gets a fancy name is that the bread is Italian. [Can you tell I've have some bad experiences ordering an expensive $6.00 panini only to get nothing more than a grilled sandwich?] But Lean Cuisine's panini was priced at $2.50 and it's worth every single penny!.
