Quaker Golden Brown Sugar Oatmeal Express
I eat a ton of oatmeal, but usually only in my apartment, since I would need to carry around the oatmeal packet and a bowl if I wanted to have this on the go. Quaker Oatmeal Express was designed with that in mind. It's basically a cup of oatmeal to which you can add hot water to "cook up" a delicious treat. There are three flavors available - Golden Brown Sugar, Cinnamon Roll, and Baked Apple - and I opted to try the Golden Brown Sugar variety. I bought one for $1.60 at the library cafe (where they happened to have hot water).
Mmm ... this was so good
. The maple and brown sugar flavors are rich and satisfyingly sweet - not overly so. There is also a slight hint of cinnamon which shines through - I add that to my oatmeal at home too so I was quite pleased with this.
Country Choice Organic Hot MultiGrain Cereal
Just add me to the count of the MANY oatmeal lovers out there! Every morning, I sit down to a delicious bowl of oaty goodness, made interesting by whatever toppings I can scrounge up. Even though the base is the same, the toppings make it interesting and fun, and it NEVER fails to satisfy my hunger for hours. For as long as I can remember, I've been a fan of the plain old Quaker Oats, but decided to give Country Choice Organic Hot MultiGrain Cereal a whirl when I spied it on the shelf at Trader Joe's.
Each 1/2 cup (dry - 40 grams) serving provides 130 calories, an impressive 5 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber plus 1 gram of total fat and no sodium. The ingredient list could not be beat: Organic Rolled Whole Grains: Rye, Barley, Oats and Wheat. I love when I can pronounce everything they put into a product!

For me, the morning usually starts off with a bowl of oatmeal and since this is a regular occurrence, I make it many different ways and try many different varieties so I don't get bored with it. While shopping at Albertsons supermarket with my mom one day, we spotted a box Quaker's Low Sugar Fruit and Cream. This was the first time I had spotted this variety pack, which included Strawberry and Peach flavored oatmeal, so naturally I wanted to try some! And it was just my luck that they were on sale for 10 for $10!
As soon as we got home, I went to the kitchen to try my new discovery. First up was the strawberry flavor. When I opened the packet of oatmeal, I noticed that the dried fruit pieces mixed in with the oatmeal was quite evident. This went into a bowl along with 2/3 cups of water, which was then microwave for about 90 seconds. When I opened the microwave, a sweet aroma of strawberries filled my entire kitchen. It smelled so good that I actually burnt my tongue from ignoring the heat. And WOW this is probably the best oatmeal I have ever had. I could taste the individual pieces of "strawberries" and even though this oatmeal is "lower sugar" it was still really sweet and creamy - just absolutely perfect. I enjoyed this so much that I also wanted to try the peach variety, but I was so full that I couldn't. However, the next morning, I did try the peach flavor and it was just as good at the strawberry ... just peachy.

Hello my name is Sarah and I am addicted to oats. I officially have a problem. Lately, it seems like I can not eat enough of this simple, yet nutritious grain. (Well actually is is considered quick a complex carb). I don't know if it's because the weather is changing and I am turning towards heartier foods or if my body is subconsciously telling me it is requiring something in this great grain! Either way, I am glad my addiction is for something healthy.
And I am not just limiting my intake to oatmeal. If it has oats in it, chances are, I'll try it. Steel cut, stone ground, rolled, Irish, instant, cooked, RAW...whatever it is - I'm game.
My favorite way to eat oats is actually soaking them in almond milk and mixing in other things such as sweetener, butter, nuts, fruit, etc., but I was in the mood for something different for my bedtime snack. So I decided to try something new. Enter: Quaker Oatmeal Simple Harvest. Labeled as an "all natural instant multigrain hot cereal", I figured why not give it a try.
I microwaved a packet of the Apples and Cinnamon flavor and it was delicious. The cinnamon was very evident in the taste as were the baked apples. Some ingredient labels on 'healthy' oatmeal can read like a small book, but this is not the case with Simple Harvest. The ingredient list is short and sweet: Whole Grain Rolled Oats & Wheat, Rolled Barley, Whole Grain Rolled Rye, Sugar, Sweetened Dried Apples, Whole Flax Seeds, Oat Flour, Natural Flavors, Cinnamon, Salt & Molasses.

Ever since chain restaurants in New York were required to post nutritional information, I have found myself wondering about the stats at my everyday eateries. As a certified Starbucks-a-holic, I was especially curious about the data on those massive cookies and whipped cream-laden drinks. Thankfully, just as I go the shock of my life courtesy of Starbucks.com, they introduced new healthier options - and I was all over the Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal - yes they called it "perfect". So sure of themselves they were - so how could I not give it a try.
I must say that they deserve the bragging rights. I was very impressed with the warm, comforting cup of oatmeal offered with a selection of toppings, including a nut medley, dried fruits, and brown sugar, all for just $2.45. I chose the dried fruit - one of my favorite things to add to my own homemade oatmeal, and I must say that this was just as good.

I love oatmeal. Really, I think I would classify it as one of my favorite foods. However, I could never, ever eat it plain. Over the years, I have come up with many different ways of preparing it to suit my mood so that miraculously, I have never gotten bored with my trusty oats. Here are my tips to make your oatmeal boring no more.
The key to a good bowl of oatmeal is making old fashioned stove-top oats. Forget that instant-microwave peach banana flavor stuff - That's not oatmeal! The real stuff you can buy in a bulk bin for sometimes less than $.99 a pound! Talk about an economical breakfast! Take the ten minutes it requires to make a real bowl on the range top-you'll be happy you did.
my recipe: first of all, use milk to cook the oats in, not water-makes. It makes it SO much creamier. Once you try this, you'll never go back! Next, while cooking, chop in a banana. This way, the banana's sweetness diffuses to sweeten the whole bowl. When it's done, add a spoonful of peanut butter and sprinkle some ground flax seed on top for an extra healthy breakfast.

Oatmeal is one of my favorite foods. It can make a delicious snack as well as a satisfying meal, and it provides a good dose of fiber and protein with relatively little fat and calories. Although I normally eat my oatmeal plain with a little bit of salt (strange, yes, but delicious), I was looking to try something new and different when McCann's Instant Sugar Free Irish Oatmeal in Maple and Brown Sugar caught my eye. Most flavored oatmeal is loaded with sugar, so the fact that this product is sugar free was very appealing. Still, I found it odd that a "sugar free" cereal came in a "Maple & Brown Sugar" flavor?!
I emptied the packet into a bowl and added water, microwaving for about a minute and a half. The serving size was not huge, but it was big enough to be a good snack. I was a little bit disappointed by the taste - it had somewhat of an overly sweet, artificial sugar flavor, with strong maple taste that took a little while to get used to. After a few bites, I decided I liked it, but it certainly wasn't love at first bite (pardon the pun).

I love a bowl of oatmeal in the morning because it's filling, delicious, quick to make, and nutritious. I've tried various kinds, and have also expanded my horizon to other hot cereals, such as grits and cream of rice. Recently I stumbled upon Krusteaz Zoom, a 100% cracked wheat hot cereal.
I cooked my Zoom on the stove, although despite the directions, I added the cereal to the water before it boiled. It only took a couple of minutes to cook, and it thickened like oatmeal, releasing starch that made a creamy texture. I mixed in some maple syrup, raisins, and walnuts and indulged in a spoonful. It did remind me of hot Grape-Nuts cereal! It's less chewy than Steel-cut oatmeal, but much more toothy than any other form of oatmeal I've had. There is a mild, wheaty taste which makes this taste very bland when it's by itself without the benefit of added sugar and fruits.

Sturm's Cranberry Whole Grain Oatmeal
I was actually looking for Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal (after reading Jeffrey's comment about losing 15 pounds from eating it every morning), but the red box of Sturm's Cranberry Whole Grain Oatmeal caught my attention. I looked more closely and saw, "No Sugar Added, Whole Grain, Healthy for Your Heart, Made with Flax Seeds and Plant Sterols" - all on the front panel. How could I not buy this instead? So I grabbed a box and into my grocery cart it went.
The next morning, it took me all of 2 minutes to prepare this, and it was really delish
. The directions are to add 1/2 cup of water, stir and microwave for 2-3 minutes. That will result in a very THICK oatmeal, so don't be afraid to add more - I usually add about 3/4 cup. The oatmeal has a natural, fresh taste - not as sweet as some other oatmeal, but I didn't miss it. There are enough cranberries sprinkled throughout to add a pleasant contrasting flavor in every few spoonfuls. It's also very filling - I have been having this oatmeal every morning for breakfast, and I don't even think about food until lunch time.
Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal
Food manufacturers and marketers are always out eyeing what they think is the latest trend - or coming up with their own and it seems to be that the focus is turning on making 'regular foods' into 'diet products' with some kind of diet claim. Quaker wasn't content to rest on just having regular oatmeal which I actually like and now they have "Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal." Did they invent a super ingredient that will help us shed pounds? Unfortunately, not.
The back of the Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal box says "maintaining a healthy weight depends on balancing calories consumed and calories used" while the front is all about the "7 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber." A bit confusing, but since it says NOWHERE ON THE BOX that this cereal will actually help us lose weight - I'm thinking that it doesn't. Let's face it - if it did, I'm pretty sure it would be on the front, back, sides and bottom.
It does taste just as good as classic instant Quaker oatmeal, but it was very filling. There just seemed to be a lot more of it -and after doing a bit of research on the internet, I discovered that the regular Quaker instant oatmeal packets contain half the amount of oatmeal (28 grams) than the Weight Control version (45 grams). (I don't know if Quaker has since increased the size of the classic oatmeal to match the Weight Control one since it has been a few months since I have bought oatmeal). Of course, this means that the Weight Control will appear to be more nutritious and more filling - since there is more of it.

I used to hate oatmeal as a child, and actually I'm still not that fond of it, but with only 150 - 160 calories per serving, and heart healthy oats, who can resist adding this to the breakfast arsenal. It is essential that we start off the day with a good breakfast, and Quaker Instant Oatmeal, with their variety of flavors, helps us do just that. My favorite is apples and cinnamon which has 130 calories, 2% of the RDA for total fat, 3 grams of protein and 27 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 12 grams of sugar and 11% of the RDA for fiber.
