Starkist Mango Chipotle Salmon Creations

Who doesn't love a good tuna sandwich every once in awhile? Canned fish like tuna and salmon is such a quick, easy to prepare sources of protein, but unfortunately, it gets a bit boring for my palate after a while. Apparently, I'm not alone in this thinking and the folks at Starkist got the memo, because they have gotten creative - first by introducing new "pouch packaging" (no more liquid to mess with), and then by introducing flavored varieties. I'll be honest and say I never had canned salmon, but the addition of mango and chipotle piqued my interest.
I made the whole thing onto a sandwich and didn't add any condiments, so I would experience the full flavor - or lack thereof. YUM! I was thoroughly impressed. Each bite contains the taste of salmon, paired with sweet mango and a little spicy chipotle kick at the end. These flavors married beautifully, and just as I suspected, no mayo was required.

Bumble Bee totally flipped the concept of tuna upside down with the Spicy Thai Chili Sensations. The Sensations concept is like a Tuna upgraded. Instead of the traditional canned stuff packed in water or oil, this comes in a can with a no-mess, no-fuss, easy to peel open foil lid. The tuna is already seasoned and there is little or no liquid - anybody who has ever had tuna juice spill all over the counter, clothes and stank up the office knows that this is a big deal.
While that's good, what's even better is the flavor. Forget traditional tuna. Forget having to mix it with mayo and all other types of condiments to get it moist and tasty. Bumble Bee did all the work for you and when you try the Spicy Thai Chili, you'll go wowza (not just wow)! Read the name again slowly so you'll notice that all 3 words (spicy, thai and chili), are synonyms for muy caliente ... hot! Although I'm a lightweight when it comes to spicy foods, I must say that I loved every bite of it. The 'heat factor' was manageable (for me) and seemed to just make the flavor all that much better.

After the slight disaster that was Lean Cuisine Baked Lemon Pepper Fish, I decided to try another fishy frozen dinner, Healthy Choice Lemon Pepper Fish. This meal comes with "breaded and lightly seasoned Lemon Pepper Fish, rice pilaf, crisp broccoli and apple cherry dessert." Unfortunately, the lemon pepper fish was very lightly flavored, so there was not much taste to it. The rice pilaf was a nice addition, and made the meal more substantial than just 'fish with broccoli and cheese' that was the Lean Cuisine dinner. I must say that I microwaved this dinner to within an inch of its life - way too much time. The fish was piping hot, but the broccoli was just lukewarm - just as with Lean Cuisine - but it was warm enough, quite fresh tasting, and a bit crunchy. The Healthy Choice dinner also comes a little dessert on the side - they say apple cherry dessert, I say, apple pieces in some kind of thick syrup. It was sweet, and pretty good, but I must admit that I didn't have much of it - just because I am not big on intensely sweet desserts or syrups.
