PowerBar Harvest Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Whole Grain Bar

PowerBar Harvest Whole Grain Bars come fully loaded - loaded with protein (10 grams) and loaded with fiber (20% of the RDA). While there are bars out there with either more fiber (FiberOne and Gnu Bars), or more protein (ThinkThin bars), there are few that can boast that they have a combination of both.
I tried the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip PowerBar. It was chewy yet firm and crunchy from the whole grains, and there were chocolate chips in every bite that. I really didn't detect much of a peanut butter flavor however, but that's okay because I don't like peanut butter much anyway - but if you do, take note.

Fiber One cereal is amazing - great taste, low in calories and 56% of the RDA for fiber [read the review], so I was expecting nothing but good things from the Fiber One bar - and it does deliver in terms of the high fiber content. I really liked the taste of the Oats & Chocolate bar. It is chewy and sweet. If you are a chocolate lover, then this would definitely help satisfy your cravings. There is actually more chocolate than oats (chocolate is the 2nd ingredients list, while oats is the 3rd). I am not sure that's a good thing, since I personally have a hard time thinking of anything that includes chocolate as being good for me. Apparently, so too do the folks over at Diet-blog.com, because they thought Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Bar was nothing more than a glorified candy bar [read the review]. But I must say that candy bars have a lot more fat and sugar than these bars, so I can't say that I agree totally.
Tropicana Essentials with Fiber
If you haven't heard about Tropicana Essentials yet - you better check the refrigerated juices in your supermarket. The Tropicana Essentials line offers 100% pure squeezed orange juice - with a little something extra! In this case, it is extra fiber, but I have also reviewed Tropicana Essentials Healthy Heart [link] which has added cholesterol lowering plant sterols.
Tropicana Essentials with Fiber tastes great - of course, because Tropicana has been making orange juice since the dawn of time! The benefit of this juice (other than the fact that orange juice is naturally good for you) is that there is 3 grams of fiber in every glass, which is 12% of your daily requirement. This is similar to the amount of fiber in 1 actual orange BUT the fiber is added is in the form of FiberSol-2, which is derived from corn. Is the source of the added fiber important to you? I would love to know, so please leave a comment and tell us!

I try to get as much fiber as I can in my diet and when I saw Fiber One cereal with 56% of the recommended daily amount of fiber, I knew that I had to try it. Since there is so much fiber, you should expect that there is going to be a sort of "bran" taste to the cereal - and there is! It didn't have much taste other than that - it's not really sweet, although it does have "honey clusters" - which look like little balls of oats. There are lots of them in the cereal, and every now and again you get the soft crunch of one of the little clusters, but the taste and texture is greatly overshadowed by the bran taste of the rest of the cereal - really, they might as well have left them out. I actually liked the cereal though, because the bran taste is not too overwhelming. Although I couldn't see myself buying box after box of this cereal, but I would go back to it from time to time. Another vote for this cereal is over at Nutritious Junk [link], where hungry waif wrote a very favorable review.
