Imperial Gourmet All Natural Edamame
Imperial Gourmet All Natural Edamame comes in 1/2 pound microwavable bowls, which is really helpful for controlling portions. The "bowls" are more like plastic tofu containers which aren't very deep and hold a good amount of edamame.
The edamame were very tasty as expected and unsalted in the package. However, there are also little packets of sea salt included so that you can salt to your liking.

While in search of some frozen edamame, I came across Seapoint Farms Veggie Blends with Edamame and decided to test it out.
This veggie blend was unlike anything I had seen before. In addition to the edamame, there are also peapods, baby corn, shredded carrots, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and 2 varieties of mushrooms (flat/black and button-shaped/white). I decided to simply boil the vegetables to capture their natural essence. I didn't realize, though, that none of these vegetables really have a distinct flavor, and they turned out kind of bland on their own. Despite that, I bet that these veggies would be a great addition to a dish with the right spices.

As a self-proclaimed health nut foodie, I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I have NEVER tried Edamame! But after reading about how everyone seems to enjoy this treat, I decided to investigate. I purchased Trader Joe's Frozen Edamame, as I was impressed by the idiot-proof instructions and the hefty portion size.
Each 1/2 cup serving (the bag has about 3 servings) contains 120 calories, a whopping 10 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat including 1 gram of saturated fat, and 7 grams of fiber. Very impressive. It took just five minutes to cook on the stove-top, and they were pleasantly firm but completely cooked. They took a good long time to eat, so my brain was able to process satiety rather well, and I didn't overdo it with dinner this time. The naturally nutty taste of the soybeans came through, and I did not need any additional seasonings.

I like eating bite-sized snacks, but that size often times only comes in processed starchy foods. Edamame, or soybeans, fit the bills the bill quite well, and it's natural and full of nutritious goodness. Edamame are sold either shelled or still in the pods. It's fun eating them out of the pods like you would peanuts, but the shelled product in this review are more convenient to eat.
While you could boil the frozen edamame, Private Selection Steam Select Shelled Edamame was made to be microwave-steamed right in the bag. Although I didn't use the steam method, the design of the bag was comparable to other steamed veggie bags I've seen. The taste of edamame is uniquely mild and at times mildly sweet, and it had a firm but chewy texture. All the soybeans were uniformly large and delicious.

Edamame (soybeans) is one of my favorite foods. They have beneficial soy protein, lots of fiber, and vitamins to boot, all for little fat and calories - not to mention how fun they are to eat! You may already be familiar with Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, as am I, but I was eager to try the fresher Seapoint Farms Edamame Lightly Salted Soybeans in Pods.
Preparation is a cinch: heat by either boiling or microwaving (with a little water), then enjoy! In my opinion, the soybeans in pods are much more fun to eat than the shelled or dried ones - just pull the pod through your teeth to get the beans. A healthy, filling snack that takes a while to eat - sounds perfect to me!

Seapoint Farms says that their Dry Roasted Edamame is a great source of soy protein (14 grams per serving) containing all 8 essential amino acids, 2 net carbs and adds no cholesterol or trans fats to your diet. These are one of my favorite healthy snacks. It has a sort of unusual taste, lightly salted with a slightly nutty, roasted soy flavor. Edamame as a snack seems to be an acquired taste - some people like it, some don't, but with the nutrition facts - high fiber, protein and low fat - it's definitely worth trying.
Trader Joes Dry Roasted Edamame
On a recent trip to Trader Joe's, I came across their "Dry Roasted Lightly Salted Edamame" snack. Edamame is the same thing as soybeans, and in this case, the beans have been removed from the pod and dry roasted, in a manner similar to peanuts. What really drew me in was the fact that something - anything - in Trader Joe's only costs 99 cents (even chewing gum is $1.29). The lightly salted edamame was crunchy, crispy, and I really, really liked it. The taste was a teeny tiny bit different from the more popular nuts such as peanuts, but I honestly slightly preferred the lighter tasting edamame to peanuts - AND I certainly preferred the price. I also must confess that I am a bit of a salt addict. I tend to dislike 'lightly salted' foods, BUT the light salt goes very well with the light taste and feel of the edamame.
The table below compares the nutrition facts of one serving of Trader Joes Lightly Salted Dry Roasted Edamame (30 grams) vs. Planters Lightly Salted Dry Roasted Peanuts (28 grams).
