Luna Chocolate Mint Cookie

Luna Chocolate Mint Cookies

I spotted Luna Cookies at the grocery store and decided to try one. There were three flavor possibilities - Berry Pomegranate, Chocolate Mint, and Peanut Butter Chocolate - but only the first two were available at the particular store where I was shopping, so I settled on the Chocolate Mint flavor, eager to see if this cookie lived up to the Luna reputation.

I opened the package and examined the cookie. It was thick and chocolatey, with a drizzle of white icing on the front (I'm not sure why they chose to put a picture of a chocolate bar on the front). I bit into it expecting nothing but chocolate mint goodness, and was somewhat surprised to find that the first flavor that hit me was a sort of prune-y one. However, as I chewed more, the chocolate and mint hit, and it became much more satisfying. One thing that struck me about this was how chewy it was; I have to say, it was almost too chewy - it took a lot of work to get it down! Still, it was satisfying and dessert-like. ... continue reading »

Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Cookie

Weight Watchers Peanut Butter CookieLike the Weight Watchers Lemon Cake with Lemon Icing, I found the Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Cookie in my aunt's pantry when I was over for a visit. My love for peanut butter gave me high hopes for this product. But once again, like the Weight Watchers Lemon Cake with Lemon Icing, I found these to be quite small, especially since each 1 is a serving (worth 1 WW Point).

Then again, they are so delicious that they may just satisfy your burning sweet tooth. After ripping through the cellophane wrap, I bit into the soft cookie and was delighted by the smooth peanut butter flavor that the chewy cookie possessed. YUM! It was pure bliss ... that ended too soon.

Voortman Flax Seed Omega 3 Cookies

Voortman Flax Seed Omega 3 Cookies

I have decided that my sweet tooth is bigger than all of my other teeth combined. With that determination, I attempt to make my sweet treats as healthy as possible. Therefore, when I stumbled upon Voortman Flax Seed Omega 3 Cookies, I knew they were a must-try. To tell you the truth, the name does not make them sound too appealing, but I am always open to new food products.

Each cookie is golden brown and appears to be thin and crispy, but, on the contrary, they are delightfully chewy, with a slight crumble and a perfectly subtle, yet tasty sweetness. As the name suggests, Voortman Flax Seed Omega 3 Cookies do have flax seed in them which provides 700 mg ALA Omega-3 Fatty Acids per cookie. The flax seeds, a prominent ingredient, are dispersed throughout the luscious batter; but blend into each bite, rather than adding a crunchy textural difference.

South Beach Living Fiber Fit Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies

South Beach Living Fiber Fit Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies

South Beach Living Fiber Fit Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies come in pre-portioned 100 calorie snack packs, and while I am not a big fan of this snack size (who says snack are supposed to be 100 calories?), I was impressed that they managed to pack 20% of the daily recommendations of fiber into each serving, so I was excited to try it.

When I opened the pack and emptied the contents onto a plate, 6 cookies fell out. They were 6 deliciously sweet and chocolatey cookies, but certainly not enough for a snack by itself. The name says "double chocolate" but it didn't taste any extra chocolatey to me. I also didn't really experience any chocolate chunks - but then again, these were just a little bit bigger than a quarter, and not very thick, so it's hard to distinguish any ingredients. A good use for this, might be coupled with tea (may I suggest Celestial Seasonings Original Indian Spice TeaHouse Chai), or crumbled over some low fat yogurt like Dannon Light n Fit 0% Plus Strawberry Yogurt, and since you wouldn't need more than 2 or 3, it would certainly make this pack last longer.

Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies

Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies As I was wondering down the snack isle of the grocery store today, I was on the search for something completely different (because that is always more fun). I was about to settle for an oldie, but goodie: Annie's All Natural Honey Bunny Grahams, when I spotted a brand spankin' new product on my local Target's shelves: Leclerc Praeventia Dark Chocolate Chip 70% Cocoa with Red Wine Extract Cookies (what a name). There is a Zest of Orange with Green Tea Extract flavor as well, but my love for chocolate made the decision for me.

There are so many health claims on this 7.4oz box that I am not sure how to convey every stimulating statement to you without setting out to write a book. First off all, there are 10 grams of whole grain and 4 grams of fiber per 30 gram pouch (each box contains 7 little heart filled bags). The flavor is so intense and delightful that the seemingly small serving may actually satisfy even the biggest volume eaters.

Each heart shaped, crispy chocolate cookie is a compacted mixture of whole rolled oats, brown sugar, enriched and whole oat flour, visible mini dark chocolate chips and a few other nutritious attributes. Furthermore, the 70% dark chocolate and red wine extract offer your body a tasty source of powerful antioxidants. The texture is similar to that of a Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bar, which is certainly not bad, just unexpected. The cookie tends to be a bit crumbly and slightly dry at first; but melds into a perfect concoction once it hits your mouth. The dark chocolate flavor is extremely concentrated and resembles pure dark chocolate (which is utterly amazing).

Almondina Choconut Almond Cookies

Almondina Choconut Slmond CookiesThe packaging of Almondina says their Almondina Choconut Almond Cookies are "the delicious cookies without the guilt." For those of you who like lots of sweet crunching without a lot of calories (chocolate or not!) - listen up! I have seen Almodina cookies many, many times before, but continuously passed them by thinking that "I didn't need to waste my money on yet another supposedly great tasting, low calorie cookie". Boy was I wrong! Almodina Choconut is far, far from a waste of money - or calories.

Each thin and incredibly crispy Almondina is thick enough to hold a cornucopia of almond chunks and chewy raisins that mix it up in the delightfully crunchy mouth feel. Furthermore, they are not overly sweet. As a matter of fact, they are simply a decadent chocolate flavor, which will subdue even the strongest cravings. Like their website says, "Delicious. Crunchy. All-natural. Indulge!"

Enjoy Life Nut and Gluten Free Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Enjoy Life Chocolate Chip Cookies Enjoy Life prides itself on making foods that "almost anyone can enjoy" and that means they try to make products without common allergens. Most of their foods are nut and gluten free, as is this Soft Baked Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie. As much as I like the concept behind the company, I really didn't like the taste of these cookies. There is an unpleasant floury taste that lingers in the mouth after the cookie is gone. While the cookies are not overwhelmingly awful, they are definitely not worth the $3.69 that I spent on a box with only 12 small cookies.

Snackwell's Black Forest Cookie Cakes

SnackwellsSnackwell's Black Forest Cookie Cakes are "low fat, cholesterol free and low sodium" according to the front of the packaging. I don't have really have a sweet tooth, but there are many people that do, and while I will never consider cookies or cakes healthy food, an indulgence every now and again shouldn't hurt too much - if the portion is right. So thanks Snackwell's for thinking of us, but is the cookie really a viable, not-so-bad option? Well, 1 cookie has 50 calories, 0.5 grams of total fat, no trans fat and 7 grams of sugars, and the ingredients list includes the sugar alcohol, maltitol. Remember, this is one cookie! If you can handle only eating one cookie, then this might be good in the sense that it will satisfy your sweet craving without adding too many calories and sugar grams to your diet.

South Beach Diet Peanut Butter Cookies

South Beach Diet CookiesCall me weird, but I do not like peanut butter and I am not a big fan of cookies. I will eat them if they are there, but I don't crave them. Instead God blessed me with a love of chips! But South Beach Diet decided to try and make a better version of cookies for you 'sweet snack-a-holics.' I was pretty impressed with the ingredients list: whole wheat flour, real peanut butter, vegetable oil - nothing much that you wouldn't use yourself in baking. They also use acesulfame-K, Splenda and maltitol as sweeteners to replace much of the sucrose. The good thing is that these cookies actually taste good! No weird aftertaste. They have a peanut buttery taste but not too overwhelming, and it is still sweet.
