Weight Watchers Lemon Cake with Lemon Icing

Weight Watchers Lemon Cake with Lemon IcingWhen I opened my aunt's pantry the other day, I spotted a box of Weight Watchers Lemon Cakes and my sweet tooth basically made the decision for me. I dug into the box and pulled out a treat that seemed to be no longer than my pinkie. Needless to say, my anticipation waned a little bit. Each cake is 1 WW point; which must explain the doll-sized nature of the cake.

Looking past the size, and on to the taste, I was quite impressed. Each bite possessed a soft & spongy lemon infused cake base, topped with a firm layer of sweet lemon icing. It really was just as delicious as the name suggests.

Mrs. Freshley's SnackAway 100 Calorie Mini Fudge Brownie Bites

Mrs. Freshley's Snack Away 100 Calorie Mini Fudge Brownie BitesMrs. Freshley's, despite the deceiving name, is a big bad wolf for dieters out there. Just look at Mrs. Freshlys Jumbo HoneyBun which has 43% of the daily value for total fat (28 grams), and 62% of the daily value for saturated fat. However, unlike in Red Riding Hood, this Big Bad Wolf has a split personality. Along with the bad, Mrs. Freshley's decided that they would create SnackAway, "a line of better-for-you snack cakes developed to be part of an overall healthier lifestyle."

I spied Mrs. Freshley's SnackAway 100 Calorie Mini Fudge Brownie Bites and decided to see if Mrs. Freshley's was indeed becoming friendlier to those of us trying to find better choices in the supermarket aisles. I opened the box and was expecting to get bags of little brownie bites. Instead, I was greeted with a white tray with three 2-bite brownies. As I took a bite and began to slowly savor my first little medallion, my thoughts were: kind of thin, yet dense and taste extremely similar to those brownies that you can find on every snack cake isle that are usually topped with nuts or little candy coated chocolates (I kid you not). Each bite is very moist because of the supreme denseness and could tackle any chocolate craving.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Key Lime Pie

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Key Lime PieWeight Watchers Smart Ones Key Lime Pie is described as a "Tangy Key lime custard in a graham cracker crust with whipped topping." Ordinarily I wouldn't even glance at such a rich looking dessert, but since it was "Weight Watchers" I decided that the nutrition facts couldn't be that bad, so it was worth trying - especially given my love of the key lime flavor. So far, the Key Lime flavored desserts have been a hit here on Iateapie.net - Silk Live Key Lime Soy Yogurt and Dannon Light & Fit Key Lime Yogurt, so I hoped this one wouldn't break the trend.

Each Key Lime pie comes in a little black plastic container similar to those used in frozen dinners. I was surprised by how small the pie was, but upon thawing, I enjoyed the tart creaminess of the pie and the graham cracker crumbs on the bottom. The whipped cream was also good, but the amount included was different on each pie. When it was more frozen than thawed, the key lime pie tasted sort of like a sherbet - still delicious though. I must say the flavor was spot on and I thoroughly enjoyed this yummy.

Guiltless Gourmet Bananas Foster Dessert Bowl

Guiltless Gourmet Bananas Foster Dessert BowlI have no self control when it comes to sweets. None. Give me a cake and I will try my hardest to not eat the whole thing. Bad for my diet, bad for my health, and bad for my poor tummy! Knowing that, I look for portion controlled sweets. Usually I am left with little options, and a big craving for something sweet. Betty Crocker tried to win me over with her Warm Delights Mini Dessert Bowls, but 150 calories for a small bowl and a long ingredients list, which didn't fill me up just wasn't going to cut it.

Then I heard about Guiltless Gourmet's Dessert Bowls. These all natural, portion control desserts come in 3 decadent flavors: Bananas Foster, Hot Chocolate Brownie, and Black Velvet Cake. I tried the Bananas Foster Cake. The taste was delish! No way did this taste like "low fat." The banana flavor was complimented perfectly with the rich caramel sauce. I didn't microwave mine for the full minute, causing my cake to be a little more 'doughy', ut I did this on purpose because I like it better that way. It tasted like real cake batter!

Back to Nature Banana Walnut Bakery Squares

Back to Nature Banana Walnut Bakery SquaresAs my mom was leaving for work today, she asked me if I would like a piece of the banana bread that she made last night for her fellow employees. I declined the offer at the time, but after she left, I decided to try them anyway, and as I was searching through the pantry, I ran across some Back to Nature Banana Walnut Bakery Squares. I decided to try these and see how they would stack up to my mom's home made ones.

I opened the package and it actually smelled just like the house did last night when my mom was baking. That was a welcoming attribute, but the size was a bit smaller than I had expected. Once I took a bite, I realized why - they are very dense! They are also very moist. Scattered throughout the batter are walnuts and raisins (the picture on the box does not lie!), which adds variety to the texture. After finishing this petite, flavor packed treat, my sweet-tooth was more than satisfied!

Betty Crocker Warm Mini Delights Molten Chocolate Cake

Betty Crocker Warm Mini DelightsI suppose shopping in my chef's uniform is not the way to go when buying ready-to-eat processed foods. But as someone who practices portion control by weighing everything, I was very intrigued that I might be able to satisfy my sweet tooth and occasional craving for chocolate cake - and be forced to stop after 150 calories, because each little Betty Crocker Warm Mini Delights Molten Chocolate Cake is 150 calories.

Chocolate cake is simple enough to make at home (my dad questioned my buying this when we spent so much time and money on a professional culinary school), but can a pre-made, portion controlled cake taste alright? Well, I must hand it to Madam Crocker, this cake is goo-oo-ood. Super moist, maybe even too moist to be considered a cake, and for a chocoholic like me, this is the holy grail. Sadly, its TEENY TINY. Mini? Yeah, its mini even for a baby.

Wholly Wholesome Organic Whole Wheat Pie Shells and a reduced fat, reduced sugar cheesecake

Reduced fat and sugar cheesecake I was recently asked if I would review Wholly Wholesome pie shells - and of course, I was into helping spread the word about a certified organic product made from only natural ingredients. Being the generous person that I am, I decided that the only thing that would do it justice would be a cheesecake. The things I endure to bring you readers a review!

But not just any old cheesecake would do. If Wholly Wholesome was going to make the effort to bring us a whole wheat pie shell with no bleached enriched crap or artificial colors etc. then I could not pollute it with a high fat high sugar cheesecake - no way! Experiment time people! I decided to try for a reduced fat and sugar cheesecake.

You can see more about my experience with the cheesecake later today, but in summary texture was good, so was the taste, but it just wasn't sweet enough. But let me tell you about that crust /pie shell. The taste of the pie crust really added to the cheesecake experience. It was far better than graham cracker crusts! It sounds weird to say it because I have never really thought or even remembered tasting pie crust before. As I was looking around the net, it seems I'm not the only one that recently baked with Wholly Wholesome - check out that pumpkin pie over at Veggie Talk.

Weight Watchers Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing

Wieght Watchers CakeThese Weight Watchers mini chocolate cakes taste so good that it is hard to eat just one. The chocolate cake is soft and sweet, with chocolate icing on top. In fact, the icing is also very sweet (in fact, sugar is the first ingredient on the label). One of these mini cakes has 80 calories, 3 grams total fat and 1 gram saturated fat (5% of the daily values), and 10 grams of sugars (and 1 WW point). Like I said when I reviewed Snackwells Black Forest Cookie Cakes, cookies, cakes and chips will never really be a healthy snack. Even though companies may reduce the calories to make it not-so-bad, they have no nutritional value. This is one reason that I think Weight Watchers snacks should be more than 1 point. I'm thinking they should be at least 2 points.

One box has 6 individually wrapped cakes, and may I suggest that you do not eat any at home, because the temptation will be too great to have another one. Take one to work with you, so that way, all you can eat is one.

Diet Trash: Mrs. Freshlys Jumbo HoneyBun

MrsFreshlys Mrs. Freshlys Jumbo HoneyBun can be found in most vending machines, but I am here to warn you - stay clear, because this is truly DietTrash!. Mrs. Freshley's Jumbo Honey Bun has won the "Pastry Product of the Year" several times according to the website, but I'm sure they haven't won any awards for nutrition, because one honey bun - which incidentally is not as 'jumbo' as you may think - has 580 calories, 43% of the daily value for total fat (28 grams), and 62% of the daily value for saturated fat. Diet Trash There is also 380 mg of sodium, or 16% of the RDA, and 39 grams of sugars. Like I said in my review of apples and oranges, take fruits to work with you, so you are not tempted to eat DietTrash like this!

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Double Fudge Cake

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Double Fudge Cake There is no way that double fudge cake with milk chocolate fudge sauce and chocolate swirls could be considered a diet friendly snack - is there? Well, Weight Watchers says that's just what their Double Fudge Cake is, so I had to check it out - the things I do for Iateapie.net!

Well, no complaints about the taste here. The cake was soft and moist, and the chocolate sauce was not too sweet at all. However, there was no hint of 'fudge' anywhere. Instead it was like a chocolate cake with chocolate sauce - not that that's a bad thing.

Weight Watchers SmartOnes New York Style Cheesecake

cheesecakeWeight Watchers New York Style Cheesecake looks like a cross between a swiss roll and a cheesecake. To 'make this' there were simple, easy to follow directions, which amounted to - put it in the microwave, nuke it for a few seconds, let it cool down a bit and dig in. This was actually very tasty, just like a decadent full fat cheesecake is supposed to taste. It's actually hard to believe this is supposed to be for people on a diet because it tasted rich, sweet and decadent.
