SweetRiot UnBAR 70

SweetRiot UnBar 70The SweetRiot unBAR 70 is declared the "unofficial bar of the world, having 70% dark chocolate with crunchy cacao 'peaces' and plump raisins." For $2.39, this was a pricey treat, although less expensive than the $3.99 SweetRiot All Natural Dark Cacao Nibs. I'm not the biggest fan of raisins and chocolate, but I wanted to give this a try anyway. After all, when it comes to chocolate, my motto is: the darker the better. I was especially excited for the crunchy cacao "peaces," so I unwrapped my chocolate right away (after buying it, of course).

The 1.34-ounce bar was divided into 4 squares, each of which was quite substantial. I popped one into my mouth and was greeted with a deliciously dark chocolate flavor, crunchy chocolate nibs, and plump raisins as they described. Surprisingly, I found the raisins to be a very nice touch! They weren't overpowering, but they lent a little extra sweetness and chewiness. I loved the overall combination of the ingredients. ... continue reading »

SweetRiot All Natural Dark Cacao Nibs

SweetRiot All Natural Dark Cacao Nibs

I love chocolate, but it's dangerously addictive. Whenever I buy a chocolate bar, I always find that, despite my best efforts, it's gone within a matter of hours (if not minutes)! For this reason, I generally don't buy chocolate bars too often. But why should I deprive myself of this delicious treat, especially with all the health benefits of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate? If you're like me, then you might want to check out SweetRiot All Natural Dark Cacao Nibs.

Each tin of SweetRiot chocolate is filled with "100% Dark Cacao Nibs Covered in Dark Chocolate." This all-natural treat is a perfect alternative to plain chocolate bars - it's fun to eat, comes in three fun flavors (flavor 50, flavor 65, and flavor 70, with increasing proportions of dark chocolate). In case you've never experienced the pleasure of eating a cocoa nib before, it's actually roasted cocoa beans with a really subtle chocolate taste and flavor - think a small, bitter piece of chocolate. Make them covered with chocolate, like SweetRiot did - and you'll have a little piece of heaven. While there is still a lot of saturated fat, as with other chocolate treats, I find that I'll eat less of these small baby nibs as a treat. ... continue reading »

Wild Harvest Natural Raisin Bran Cereal

Wild Harvest Raisin Bran CerealYou're looking at a cereal fiend here! I just love the stuff and while I have my favorites, I still keep an eagle eye out to try new ones.Wild Harvest Natural Wholesome Raisin Bran Cereal seemed to call out to me when I was at the grocery store on my last trip. The packaging design made me pay attention, but it was the nutrition claims on the front of the box that made me decide to try it: 24 whole grains per serving, excellent source of fiber and good source of iron ... why not! I must say that Raison Bran is not my favorite type of cereal (it might be my least favorite), but hey, there must be a good brand out there somewhere - and this could be it.

I have to admit - this stuff is good - hard to believe I'm saying this about Raisin Bran, or maybe my taste buds have evolved to appreciate the more nutritious cereals. The flakes are perfectly crunchy and lightly sweet. The raisins are deliciously plump and provide a nice change in texture from the crunchy cereal.

Each cup provides 180 calories, 28% of the daily value for fiber and 5 grams of protein. The ingredients are all natural and the taste is great. What more could you want from a cereal?!

De Wafelbakkers All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes

De Wafelbakkers Whole Wheat PancakesDe Wafelbakkers definitely has this whole "pancake thing" down to a science. I was thrilled with their Buckwheat Berry Pancakes and when I found their Whole Grain variety on sale for a mere $1.00 at Wal-Mart, I figured they would be worth it (and are they ever)!

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 2 pancakes (78 grams)

Just like the Buckwheat Berry variety, a serving is 2 extremely dense pancakes that remain delicious, despite losing their heat quickly due to the thin structure. These scrumptious, fluffy and dense whole wheat discs seem to be the perfect base for peanut butter, jam, butter spray or, inevitably, syrup. Although I had nothing to top them with, I was still enthralled. Each bite is hearty and lightly sweetened, complementing a number of flavors or making for a deliciously "carb-y" snack that can satisfy most any taste buds, anytime of the day. These are the healthiest bang for your buck of a pancake that I have ever encountered. ... continue reading »

Healthy Choice Mediterranean Pasta

Healthy Choice Mediterranean Pasta

Healthy Choice has a line of "All Natural" entrees which they describe as featuring, "all-natural ingredients such as pumpkin, asparagus, nine-grain pastas, and 100% extra virgin olive oil" plus they are meals are high in fiber and antioxidants such as lycopene and vitamins A and C, plus low in fat and saturated fat. I was really curious to see if Healthy Choice could make a tasty, nutritious and all natural meal as a frozen entree, so I picked up the Healthy Choice Mediterranean Pasta.

Healthy Choice describes this vegetarian option as, "Nine-grain orzo with beans, sautéed onions, diced tomatoes, and savory spinach packed with 12 grams of fiber. Topped with a cinnamon sauce, sweet apples, fontina cheese, and cranberries for a low-fat vegetarian delight."
