Mar. 9 - Mar. 15, 2009. FDA cracking down. The FDA is at least trying to prevent another massive recall. They announced that Chicago-based Del Rey Tortilleria, Inc., is basically banned from manufacturing and distributing soft-shell flour tortillas until the company obtains FDA approval. The action follows the company's extensive history of violations including cleaning chemicals stored improperly, unsuitable containers used for food processing and other unsanitary conditions inside the plant. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts busted! A NYC television station independently tested 7 menu items from each chain. They found caloric inaccuracies with the official posted information from both companies. For example, Starbucks Blueberry Muffin, which was labeled as having 420 calories, was found to have 580 calories, approximately 40% more than the listed amount. All Sport Naturally Zero. The first 0-calorie sports drink sweetened with Rebiana, a "natural" sweetener derived from the Stevia plant, enters the market this quarter courtesy of Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. (DPSG) and All Sport, Inc. Does this mean we will eventually see Stevia sweetened Dr Pepper, Canada Dry, A&W, 7UP and Hawaiian Punch (all brands owned by DPSG)?! Iateapie.net.
