Foodnews.org has a handy Shoppers Guide to Pesticides Guide which lists fruits & vegetables that have the highest and lowest traces of pesticides. The "Dirty Dozen" are fruits & vegetables that have the highest traces of pesticides and you should therefore buy organic. They are: Peach, Apple, Bell Pepper, Celery, Nectarines, Strawberries, Cherries, Kale, Lettuce, Grapes (imported), Carrots, Pears. The "Clean 15" are fruits and vegetables that have the lowest traces and pesticides and therefore you don't need to spend your money buying these organic. They are: Onion, Avocado, Sweet Corn, Pineapple, Mango, Asparagus, Sweet Peas, Kiwi, Cabbage, Eggplant, Papaya, Watermelon, Broccoli, Tomato and Sweet Potato. Download the guide via Foodnews.org (Wallet Guide). A very general rule of thumb that I go buy is that if I eat the skin of the fruit and I eat a lot of it, then I'll buy the organic variety. I was already buying organic apples & grapes but now that I see Bell Peppers and lettuce on the list, I'm really thinking about going organic with these 2 as well. Are there certain items that you will buy organic - do you even buy organic foods at all? I'll wager that most people don't. (Thanks to The Big Money (Slate.com) where I first saw this article).

Just because something is organic doesn't mean it's free of pesticides. So from a health standpoint organic is completely overrated,at least to me it is.
