IateApie.net provides reviews of food products
with diet & nutritional claims such as low fat, low carb, reduced sugar,
less sodium and whole grain.
Every Friday it's New Product Notes time. These are the new food products with a nutritional claim that are launching or due to be launched very soon, and that go into my line-up of products I want to review here on Iateapie.net.
VitaminWater 10. First heard about 10 calorie VitaminWater over at Packaging World. I called VitaminWater DietTrash, because 50 calories per serving or 125 calories per bottle is just too much for a "flavored water" beverage. So now VitaminWater has responded with a 10 calorie per serving version. Each bottle has 2.5 servings, so this brings the total to 25 calories per bottle. We spotted this on supermarket shelves and found out it's sweetened with crystalline fructose and erythritol - no "artificial" sweeteners. Quaker Simple Harvest Granola Bar. New Trail Mix flavor. "You get all the ingredients you love in a trail mix - almonds, cranberries, peanuts, and chocolate - in a delicious, all natural granola bar." Each 35 gram bar provides 150 calories, 9 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Nestea Red Tea Pomegranate & Passion Fruit. This new iced tea flavor is made from the leaves of the South African Rooibos plant, is naturally caffeine-free, contains no artificial colors and all-natural fruit flavors and provides 50 calories per 8 ounce serving (2.5 servings per bottle). Healthy Choice. We already spotted what we thought was a new package design from Healthy Choice even though there was no word from them about this. Now the HC website has caught up with what we already figured out, with a brand new look featuring the new packaging and new "healthy choices." There is a line of All Natural Entrees"featuring ingredients such as pumpkin, asparagus, 9-grain pastas, and 100% extra virgin olive oil." The Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers and Complete Meals also have new packaging and new meals. There are more details here.
Pepsi Natural. Last week we mentioned that Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback, sweetened with "natural sugar" instead of high fructose corn syrup, would be released in the US soon. Now, word on the street (okay, on BevReview.com) is that Pepsi Natural is also slated to be released between March and April of 2009. This will also be sweetened with "natural" sugar. Although, I won't be enjoying it (much), since it's not low calorie the way I like my sodas, it's still interesting news to me because they seem to be reacting to the disfavor that HFCS has with consumers. Permanent switch a coming? Not likely!

Pepsi natural... hmmmm... I've had Coke made without HCFS in Europe and I love it. Even still, I never drink sugary beverages (unless on a Euro vacation of some sort) so it won't be on my shopping list. Still, it is very interesting news. Thanks for sharing it!
