Iateapie.net
IateApie.net provides reviews of food products with diet & nutritional claims such as low fat, low carb, reduced sugar, less sodium and whole grain.

Not that we drink a lot of sugary drinks around Iateapie.net, but it's interesting to see that the negative reaction of consumers to HFCS has led to companies changing formulation, and even leading to the rise of "HFCS-Free" labeling of products as we mentioned in last week's Food Notes.

Now there's news that Snapple is getting a total makeover which will include the elimination of HFCS in favor of "real sugar." According to The New York Times, the old ingredient list for Lemon Snapple Iced Tea includes "water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, tea, natural flavors" with 200 calories per 16 ounce bottle. The new ingredient list: "filtered water, sugar, citric acid, tea, natural flavors" and 160 calories.

Pepsi and Mountain Dew are also introducing limited editions will use "sugar" instead of HFCS, dubbed Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback. They will be available from April 20-June 13, according to Bevreview.com.

Maybe when companies switch back to "sugar" and the obesity rates don't decrease, then people will realize that the cause is not something that companies are putting in our food, but instead, how much we are putting in our mouths.

The Pepsi rep I talk to isn't sure if their distribution is going to be getting it. We are trying to eliminate HFCS in the house and that would make me very sad.

What the people want the people get ,and in this case people have been fooled into thinking that HFCS is some sort of bad or evil substance. So companies get to switch over to sugar, and play it up is an all natural good for you ingredient.

This is just another example of perception being more important then facts.

Hey Cereal,

HFCS is a hyper-processed substance that occurs nowhere in nature. Sounds great for you, doesn't it?

You wouldn't happen to be an astroturfer for the HFCS lobby, would you? I know there are quite a few of them running about the blogosphere.

HFCS isn't bad for you Red Icculus, if you need links to studies I can provide them. If your serious about the subject and just a reminder do some actual research on the subject instead of repeating that nonsensical babble about how it being "processed" somehow makes it evil.

Just to give you a little knowledge since it seems you have none on this subject. HFCS, is not actually fructose it is processed two different ways one is a replacement for sugar and is metabolized identically ,and the other is similar to honey with the same results.Only one is actually higher in fructose than white sugar with the other one actually being lower in fructose.HFCS isn't synthetic or unnatural it is simply processed just as other sugars are.HFCS is no worse for you than the simple white table sugar it replaced.

What scientific studies do you have that somehow have convinced you that HFCS is in any way worse for you than sugar or honey.I don't mean what diet book or blog you read ,but actual studies.I'm interested into what convinced that HFCS was somehow evil or how much research you did before deciding to ban it from your house.

BTW It would be the Corn Industry lobbying for it not HFCS lobby, and I'm not part of either I'm simply someone fed up with complaisant ignorance willing to make devils out of anything they don't understand.

No response Red Icculus well I'm generous so I'll go ahead and provide you with some more info.

This is one of the studies he references http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/86/6/1586?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=High+Fructose+Corn+Syrup&andorexactfulltext=and&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&sortspec=relevance&resourcetype=HWCIT

So Red Icculus,or anyone else for that matter, can you explain why exactly HFCS is so much more terrible for you then the sugar it replaced?

Still nothing? Well here's more info

This is about weight gain and the relationship with HFCS-http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17653981?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DiscoveryPanel.Pubmed_Discovery_RA&linkpos=5&log$=relatedreviews&logdbfrom=pubmed ,and another reminder that sucrose and HFCS are nutritionally the same so trying to make HFCS into some sort of evil additive is a faulty argument-http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/80/4/1081?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&minscore=5000&resourcetype=HWCIT
