What about General Mills Fiber one bars and Nature Valley, sweet and salty bars with peanut butter on them> On recall ????

Nabisco is not on the list of products yet - nor is Fiber One and Nature Valley. The only General Mills products are the Larabar Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars and JamFrakas Peanut Butter Blisscrisp flavor snack bars.

My son became ill a few hours after eating General Mills Nature Valley Sweet & Salty penut Granola Bars. Has anyone heard of any recall for these????

@John - I haven't seen a recall for these. I suggest you contact General Mills customer service. And take your son to the doc (or get stool samples and take them to the doc) and they can confirm Salmonella

I've been pretty peeved about this. I checked the Lara Bar and FDA website about their products. Wasn't there. So I ate the ones I had.

Then a few days later, sure enough, they popped up on the list.

How hard is it to know where you get your peanut butter from?

Nature Valley is owned by General Mills, so if any of those products were affected they would be listed on the general mills website.

what about all the bars by akins with peanuts are they safe?

You're right Dana - first Atkins had issued a statement saying they were safe. Then later when PCA expanded its voluntary recall, Atkins had to issue a recall for 4 products:

* Day Break Peanut Butter Fudge Crisp
* Endulge Peanut Caramel Crisp

@Lucy,Nature Valley still looks to be safe.No mention on the FDA list, and no media stories so I don't think anything has changed regarding them.

I just called general mills and the Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Granola Bars are not on the list nor did (according to the media contact at GM) Nature Valley use the Georgia distributor for their brand.

i had a nature valley sweet and salty peanut bar and became very ill. Upset stomach and cramps for two days, yet they aren't on the list. After reading the entries on this website (http://www.aboutlawsuits.com/peanut-butter-salmonella-recall-expanded-2440/) it seems a lot of people are getting sick from nature valley products. I'd stay away just to be safe!

I too eat several Nature Valley granola bars which contain peanut butter on a daily basis and I am still here writing this! However I was checking around just to be sure. I have no worries about their products being safe.

Exactly...my view on this is that (while maybe not getting products mentioned that you haven't used) if you've been eating something for awhile, and are still alive, chances are it's fine (recall or not).

I'm reading alot of comments about the Nature valley sweet & salty peanut granola bars and my son & I also ate those bars too and we both got extremely sick with all the symptoms except a fever. It lasted about 4 days and we are recovering but our lower back where the kidney's are, is still hurting both of us. I am really interested to know if they have by past this product & if it should be on the recall list.

Kim, you are not alone on this. I bought a big box of these bars a sams club. I was becoming increasingly sick,never thought to look at a breakfast bar that was only peanuts to be the problem. Last thursday, I was admitted to the hospital with unknown anxiety ,my face was numb along with the rest of me. No strength etc...Thought I was dying.
Made myself throw up in the mens room. Started to feel better.
That morning I ate two bars in bed, thinking it was going to give me some help getting up. Just the opposite. Good luck

Wrong! That's the only peanut product my wife had consumed, and she got sick within several hours of eating it. She's been diagnosed with salmonella and remains very ill as I write. You may have been fortunate enough not to have a tainted lot of the product, or have built up an immunity to the bug. How do you divine whether someone's illness is all in one's head? Physicians would like to know...

I have been eating Atkins Choc. Peanut Butter Bars and have not gotten sick. Now Walmart has taken them off the shelves. Why?

My Duaghter ate a Nature Valley Sweet and Salty peanut bar last night as a bed time snack. She awoke this morning VERY sick and said her stomach hurt very bad. She threw up a lot and about 4-5 hours later was better. At least not violently ill. I hit this site searching to see if there was a recall on these. At least I'm not alone. My wife threw away the box, but I'm thinking of contacting them also.

For what it is worth, I had eaten two of them without issues from that box.

I just checked the Nature Valley website, and there is now a notice up saying that none of their products are affected by the peanut butter salmonella outbreak.

Ryan: Tons of bugs are going around now, especially in kids, so I doubt it was the bars (especially since salmonella lasts longer than a few hours. HOwever, I would have suggested you keep the box and have one of the bars tested if you were unsure. I'm glad your daughter feels better though!

What about Harvest Farms products from Sever NC ?

I have been violently ill since Friday, Feb 13th at about 3:00 PM. Began with vomiting and tremors, then serious body pain (shooting nerve pain in my extremities and head) followed by a high fever of 102.6, then uncontrollable diarrhea which has continued to-date. In addition, my vision has been affected slightly. It all began about one and a half hours after eating a Nature Valley Sweet and Salty Peanut Bar. Late Friday night I was hospitalized for dehydration and the high fever. My family members remain healthy and have not eaten the bars. The ER didn't do much investigating, FYI, because I have no health insurance. They were unable to determine why I am so sick and I will have to see a Doc on Monday or Tuesday. I'm very weak and highly suspicious. Don't be so quick to defend General Mills.

The recall has expanded tremendously with the company shutting down a 2nd plant and now filing bankruptcy. Nature Valley says they are not affected, Kashi is now affected - my best advice could only be stop eating products with peanut butter. Now that the company has gone bankrupt there will be no financial recourse via lawsuits for anyone.

Melissa,I don't think the sweet and salty bars is what made you sick. One and a half hours is a very short time for that theoretically small amount of salmonella to incubate and make you sick. Remember this isn't like food poisoning where in the body immediately tries to flush offending toxins ,but a disease that infects the body.Even if Nature Valley products do end up being recalled it wouldn't be General Mills fault for the delayed action, because so far they have been told that they are unaffected.I don't think any company involved in this directly or peripherally wants anymore bad press so I doubt that they would be withholding information on the safety of their products.

I ate Natures Valley Granola Bars with peanut butter drizzled on top of them. I have ate some throughout the week and was fine but I had one in the morning yesterday and then later in the afternoon and was awakened this morning from being very sick. i dont have insurance so i have not gone to the hospital. i was just hoping it went away. it did but now ive had fever for the last 3 days. not too high 100f. my body is in extream pain. my lower back is on fire. and i have flem in my chest. i dont know what to do as i have no money. dont know if its related 2 the nature valley bars i ate. but its the only penut butter if ate this year.

I ate a Nature Valley Sweet and Salty Nut on Friday not even thinking about the nut recall. I was very worried so I called the company and the said they are fine. I did not get sick at all (and I get sick with tummy stuff pretty easy). I'm sure some of these cases of people getting sick is hopefully due to the cold and flu seasons. I still tossed my box though.

I just bought a 16ct. box of Nature Valley sweet and salty peanut butter bars and have had no symptoms yet. I just ate three bars a few minutes ago. I bought these at Big Lots for only $4. This tells me they are trying to get rid of them via liquidation at discount places like Big Lots because they know these bars could have multiple sources of peanut butter. Some boxes may be more contaminated than others, possibly. With some of the above comments, it sounds as though eating the remainder of my bars is gonna be a risk. Damn these bars are good though!! mmmmmmmm.If I start getting sick, I will either take colloidal silver or Baking soda water with lemon. I hope everyone stays well.

The Nature Valley products aren't part of the recall. The reason they're found at Big Lots is the same reason that other things are found there; not some conspiracy to offload a contaminated product.

The baking soda won't help either. If you get salmonella poisoning you need to go to a doctor.

If you have a fear of getting sick from Nature valley sweet & salty peanut granola bars, throw out the ones you have and don't buy anymore, it is that simple. A lot of times when there is a recall on any food products,people let it get to their heads and they start to panic. Reese's peanut butter cups are not on the recall list and I've been eating them all my life and never once became sick so if you want some good news they are safe, unless you eat too many and get a little tummy ache.

My husband ate the Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Granola Bars and got very sick! It is the only thing he ate different than the rest of the family. None of us have been sick! DO NOT EAT THEM!!!
