We asked some of our favorite food bloggers to share with us their 5 Favorite Food Products of 2008 and we're bringing them to you all December (and January) long.
We have the pleasure of 2 lists today from Andrea and Erin from Care to Eat. Andrea says, "I became a vegetarian this year and it's changed my life. The greatest thing about giving up a food group was discovering what's in the other three! There are so many more fruits and vegetables that I enjoy eating now and most of them I would have never tried before if I was still eating meat."
- 1. One of the best things I've learned, is how to cook with tofu and tempeh. I absolutely LOVE tempeh and a year ago I hadn't even heard of it! I use Tofuky tempeh at home and prefer the grain tempeh over the soy. Here's a classic example of how I make my tempeh sandwiches.
- 2. Dave's Killer Bread. The base of many of my tempeh sandwiches.
- 3. Voskos vanilla Greek yogurt. Everybody talks about Fage and Chobani, but Voskos blows them out of the water!
- 4. Trader Joe's Cherry Chocolate Chip Soy "Ice Cream". You would never know it's soy! Lots of chocolate chips and real cherry chunks.
- 5. Bora Bora bars. What I like about these is, what you see is what you get - there's nothing on the ingredient list that you can't see in the bar.
Erin says, "I make reasonable efforts to live a life guided by a simple philosophy: self-care is the most important care! This philosophy influences my behavior in a number of domains, including how I eat, what I eat, fitness, relationships, and hobbies, to name a few." Here are some of Erin's faves:
- 1. I'm very obsessed with chocolate vitamuffins. I just found them about 8 months ago and they make a GREAT dessert. I like them microwaved, then covered with fruit and yogurt.
- 2. I adore Laura's oatmeal chocolate chip bite-lettes.
- 3. I've recently become a huge fan of Oikos. I didn't start eating plain greek yogurt until July, and I love the high protein content and super thick texture!
- 4. WestSoy pre-marinated packs of tofu. Sesame peanut and tomato basil are awesome and great for a lazy (busy?) person like myself.
- 5. Lastly ... SQUASH! Summer, acorn, spaghetti, whatever. I love them all!
