The Obesity Blame Game
Of course, the above statement and article was controversial, and Foodproduction-usa.com published some of the reader feedback here.

Carol I'm fat because I eat too much. Like many ex-smokers, I replaced the potential for lung cancer with the potential for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. MY fault, not any industry's. But thanks to Weight Watchers, I'm already down almost 5 lbs in a sensible amount of time, and I've been cooking a lot more. But if people want to blame everyone under the sun for their obesity...well, that's just sad and so unproductive.

ross Unfortunately on the surface I disagree with the sentiments being made here - but this is because the article is being presented in a a+b=c manner. The obesity crisis is due to many, many small, but influential factors of which the food industry is one. There is no getting away from the fact that it is up to us as a race to eat more healthily and exercise more - the fact is that the way in which manufacturers are promoting products is giving the impression that people ARE eating more healthily. I don't blame them at all for continuing to develop and market fat-filled, sugar-filled foods - because hey, those things should still exist. What I do have a problem with is products that are promoted as healthy, diet options that are still incredibly unhealthy and are actually going to do more harm than good. It is misleading and is tapping into consumer fear in order to make as much money as possible - regardless of ethics. Ross Post a comment
